34 years of Scouting in Folsom
Troop 134 is a Scouts BSA troop for youth ages 11 to 17. Scouts learn by doing: they plan the trips, cook the meals, and lead each other.
Who we are
Families have been bringing their Scouts to Troop 134 for 34 years. Today the troop has about 26 Scouts. We are chartered by American Legion Post 383 and belong to the Greater California Council, American River District.

How a Scout-led troop works
In Troop 134 the Scouts make the decisions and the adults coach. Here is how that works in practice.
- Patrols. Every Scout belongs to a patrol of about six to eight Scouts. Patrols camp together, cook together, and elect their own Patrol Leader.
- Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC). The Senior Patrol Leader and the Patrol Leaders meet each month to plan meetings and outings. The troop calendar comes from the PLC.
- Scoutmaster conference. Before each rank, a Scout sits down with the Scoutmaster to talk about what they learned and what comes next.
- Board of Review. Committee members then meet with the Scout to review the rank. It is a conversation, not a test.
- Adult leaders. Trained volunteers keep everyone safe, teach skills when asked, and let Scouts learn from their own choices. Meet our leadership roles.
What we do in a year
- A campout, backpacking trip or outdoor activity every month
- A week at summer camp, plus high adventure trips for older Scouts
- Courts of Honor to celebrate new ranks and merit badges
- Service projects around Folsom
- Fundraisers, including Christmas tree recycling
The trail to Eagle
Scouts advance at their own pace through seven ranks: Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. New Scouts work toward First Class with our First Class Trail.
Built by our Scouts
This website was designed by Troop 134 Scouts. In October 2026, Scouts entered five designs and the troop voted on them. The site you are reading combines the best of that work.
